MIDLAND - "Don't drink the well water."

That's the message for Midland County homeowners Tuesday from the famous environmental activist, Erin Brockovich-Ellis. Brockovich said the levels of chromium are so high in private wells, she and her colleagues are working with the state in their ongoing investigation.

It's not a Hollywood movie, but high levels of chromium 6 in well water is something the real Erin Brockovich knows a thing or two about. The contaminated water in Midland County affected more than two dozen residents and that was plenty of reason to talk directly with Midlanders.

“The average pool is probably using in the vicinity of 16 kilowatts of energy a day. That could be reduced to about 5 kilowatts pretty easily,” says Rex Richard, administrator of Pool Genius Network, a social network for pool and hot tub professionals.

White Deer Enforces Mandatory Water Boil Regulations

The City of White Deer has an alert for residents.

City officials say continue boiling your drinking water until further notice.

Friday night's thunderstorm damaged a transformer that only powered a city water pump, leaving the city without water until the transformer could be repaired.

Town to examine water tower options

Flower Mound continued to move forward Monday with its update of the town’s Water Master Plan as the planning and zoning commission examined several components of the update during its meeting.

Among the update items is a proposal for a new 3 million gallon Western Elevated Tank.

Flower Mound has two elevated storage tanks in operation, one south of FM 1171 on Bruton Orand Boulevard and one west of Morriss Road on Waketon Road.

However, according to town reports, the system pressures required to push water from the Stonehill Pump Station, located on FM 407 on the east side of town, to the west side of Flower Mound require that the Waketon tank be removed from service. That reduces the town’s elevated storage capacity to two million gallons.

State agency fines area firm, city of Hackberry

State environmental officials in Austin on Wednesday approved $8,000 in fines assessed to the city of Hackberry and a Denton-area construction company.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality deferred $1,560 of a $7,800 fine after Hackberry officials agreed to an expedited settlement over violations at its wastewater treatment plant.

While conducting a routine records review in September, a state inspector found that the treatment plant had been exceeding its permitted limits for discharges into Lewisville Lake, including excessive amounts of decaying matter and dissolved oxygen.

Choosing the Right Metering Pump

Choosing the right chemical metering pump for your water treatment needs can be confusing. Here are some things to consider that will help you pick the right model.

What capacity do you need? Consider both flow rate and discharge pressure, and choose a metering pump that has a maximum flow rate 20 to 30 percent higher than you think your maximum will be. Also make sure your minimum capacity is not less than 10 percent of the pump's potential capacity.
What kind of chemicals are involved? Different chemicals require different materials to be used, and different pumps are rated for different viscosities of material.
What kind of driver do you need? What means of powering the pump are currently available at the site (electricity, gas, etc.)? Also consider the method of control needed. Will it be operated continuously or does it need a manual on/off switch?
Where will the metering pump be housed? If it is going to be outdoors in an environment where it may freeze (or where there is extreme heat) that needs to be taken into consideration.
How do you want the pump to be controlled? Electric and pneumatic controls, motor driven pumps and electronic diaphragm pumps are all possibilities.
Finally, how rugged of a pump do you need? If it is for light duty, you can go with a slightly less expensive and maybe lower quality metering pump, but if it is for a heavy industrial use, spend the extra money to get a quality product.
